The imitation of Mary’s Humility

As I mentioned in one of my previous reflections, the Blessed Virgin Mary was endowed with 10 principal virtues, for which humility is one of them. This is a great virtue that can help us to succeed and triumph over the spirit of pride and self. We need to renounce overly attachment to self, possessions, wants (see Matthew 16:24). True humility consists in the recognition and acknowledgement of who we really are before God. A humble person appreciates the fact that everything is God’s free gift. His to increase, diminish or withdraw completely, just as He alone gave it.

To conquer the spirit of pride requires divine favour. We have the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Gentle Handmaid of God (Luke 1:38). We must approach Her with our heads and hearts. Our firm support is Mary. Let us learn to lean upon Her with childlike trust. She will teach us the true meaning of humility.
