In the Gospel of the day, The Transfiguration, (Luke 9.28-36), Jesus appeared in glory. His face shone and his clothes became dazzling white. A cloud overshadowed Peter, James and John. From the cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, my chosen, listen to him!" (9.35)
To have such an experience of the Transfiguration or the voice of God talking to us through a cloud is something most profound. If the Apostles had any uncertainty about Jesus being the Son of God, those thoughts were quickly dispelled.
Our own faith practice may take on a steady rhythm and pace. While our belief system may be strong and intact, taking a small step out of our usual prayer and worship routine may seem unnecessary. We may feel comfortable in what we are doing and comfortable feels good.
Occasions like the Transfiguration or God's voice from a cloud, provide a monumental jump start for our faith. But there are often events that occur on a much smaller scale that nudge us in the direction of deepening our faith.
What events are there around me, perhaps in my parish, or community that would help consolidate my beliefs, answer my questions and enrich my faith practice?
Am I able to make myself available to experience any of these events, groups, or readings? How can I provide my own impetus to enrich and grow my faith?
