Unrelenting Love

Lent 2017 : Day 35

In Daniel 3 (The Fiery Furnace), Nebuchadnezzar built a golden statue and commanded everyone to worship it. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not follow, they were thrown in a fiery furnace. They surrendered completely and put their trust in the Lord. God then sent an angel to protect them from harm, leaving Nebuchadnezzar in awe as he marveled at the miracle and blessed the Lord.

Most stories in Daniel speak of the promise of deliverance and glory for men of faith. They strengthen us and comfort us especially in times of trial. They teach us that God can do the impossible and can save us from anything, if we only surrender to Him. As our Father, He is always there to protect us and love us.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are perfect examples of men of faith. In John 8:31-32, Jesus says, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They could have avoided punishment by denouncing God, but instead remained faithful despite the predicament they were in. In turn, not only were they saved, they also played a part in transforming those around them.

More than being men of faith, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego also remind us to be men of gratitude. When they were saved, they thanked and blessed the Lord not just once but 39 times (Daniel 3:52-90).

In my life, I’ve always been comforted by the truth that God will save me and help me in any trial. It’s good to have complete trust in Him, but sometimes I tend take it for granted, and I forget to offer Him enough praise through my continuous prayers and actions.

As we make ourselves ready for Easter and God’s saving grace, perhaps we can also ponder on how we can be disciples in our own way, and the many means we can show our gratitude to the Lord.

Dear Lord,
Knowing You has been a source of comfort to us especially during our lowest and weakest moments.
We know You are always watching over us, sending angels our way.
May You continue to open our hearts and allow Your grace to transform and purify our souls and those around us.
Please bless and guide us that we may remain faithful to You and bring You glory.
And let our thought, prayers, and actions speak of our endless gratitude to you.
Amen.
